FAMILY: The Foundation of Society And Its Collateral Effects

The Kingdom of the Family

When you think of a kingdom what comes to mind? Perhaps things like a king, citizens, rank, etc. All the above are encompassed in the make-up of a kingdom, but what are the necessities, the essentials for it to function as designed?

The necessities are submission, obedience, and agreement. As a part of the Kingdom of God, our family structure should be an extension of the attributes of the Kingdom in which we represent. Throughout scripture we see the words obedience and submission used as it relates to marriage, and child/parent relationships.

What about the necessity for agreement? Colossians 1:17 NIV says, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” When a godly family is centered in the Word of God they bring things into being, because the Word of God holds all things together.

Agreement with the Word of God causes us to prosper and have good success! We see this with Abraham, when God called him to come out from his country, people and father’s household to begin a new family according the plan of God. Ultimately he became the father of many nations, and he and his posterity were blessed. To this day we as believers are partakers of that blessing!

So now, how is the Kingdom of God characterized according to scripture? Romans 14:17 says, “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” It’s a Kingdom of uprightness and equality, harmony and wholeness, contentment and satisfaction.

As kingdom families this is the culture that we are blessed to cultivate within our homes. It’s a culture with the ability to reform pillars in our society. This is the Kingdom of family.
